Arne Wikström

Sax/synth-sax

Born in Colombia, South America in 1977, Arne was adopted and grew up in a small village called Valnesfjord in Fauske County, Norway. Living in a village makes needs for interests and music came naturally for Arne at the age of 11. After a brutal six years-period of playing saxophone in the local school marching band, Arne finally found his musical identity through Jazz and Big Band at the age of 16. As a saxophone player in bands like Bodø Big Band, Nedre Valnesfjord Jazzandelslag, Bon Bøgda Big Band and Nordnorsk Ungdomstorband he quickly started to develop his musical career. At the age of 19 he moved to study in Bodø and his musical taste were about to change. He soon fell for smaller type of bands and put his Big Band experience behind him. Together with Metrognoms keyboard player; Kriss Stemland, he formed G-band. A tribute band to funk and disco, G-band were the house orchestra of the local pub/stage Glæden, and became quite popular having a crowded houses every time they played. Soon this was not enough and Arne joined the dj/electronica constellation Marvellous Cast. Doing only two gigs Marvellous Cast got great critics and reviews, but were not meant to last.

During this period of time, Arne was also involved touring with the reggae/ska band Misvær Ska Forening, and later he joined Vesper. Vespers music was and still is based on funk, soul and disco and the band recorded an EP in 2002. But Arne left Vesper due to his engagement in more challenging projects.

In 2003 Dread Men Walking was founded, and Arne joined this band right from the start. This constellation of some of the old members from Misvær Ska Forening continues to play reggae and ska, and to bring new heights to the term “party music”. DMW have been touring all over the northern parts of Norway playing in many different festivals.

FipPellektormonic: Together with fellow musicians, most of them with a long musical experience and education, Arne participated founding Fipp the winter 2003. The music can be described, if anything, as a constantly change of musical ideas from the members of the band. Playing only one concert,Fipp drew a lot of attention to themselves and had a great review of their concert in this year biggest national event for upcoming bands and artists, by:larm. This fall Arne and FipPellektormonic will release two albums.

Even though progressive rock wasn’t a part of Arne’s musical upbringing, he was intrigued by MetroGnom’s music. When asked by Ole to join MetroGnom, he appreciated the offer and became a regular member quickly. By playing the saxophone in Metrognom, Arne soon had to learn new skills and new ways of thinking music, to adapt to Metrognoms constantly change of styles and expressions. Through MetroGnom Arne has found new challenges and ways to express his musical self.
